Accessibility
Everyone should be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, screen magnifiers, a keyboard only, or voice control.
Our goal
We build this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. That is the standard the U.S. Department of Justice requires of state and local governments under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Where it is easy, we also meet WCAG 2.2, level AA.
What that means on this site:
- Minutes and document summaries are written on the page. An agenda is usually a PDF exported from a Google Doc, and the meeting page links to that file.
- Text is at least 18 pixels and grows when you zoom.
- Every link and button works with a keyboard and shows where you are.
- Colors have strong contrast, and color is never the only way we show something.
- Nothing moves, flashes, or plays by itself.
- Each link to a file says what kind of file it is and how big it is.
What does not work yet
- Files from other agencies. Many records on this site are PDFs that state agencies and school districts wrote. Some may not work well with screen readers. Ask us for another format and we will get you one.
- Recordings. We do not yet know whether every recording will have captions. Each meeting page says so once the recording is up. Ask us for a transcript if you need one.
- Other languages. The site is in English only for now. We plan to translate the most important pages first, with help from the districts’ language staff.
